Experience
Nice to meet you! My name is Lauren and I'm a Canadian teacher currently living in Brussels, Belgium. My English degree from University of Waterloo gave me a foundation as a communicator, with classes in rhetoric, writing, literature and business/technical communication. After graduating, I found myself interested in teaching. I spent a year at the University of Toronto and earned my TESOL certification. I started my teaching career abroad, first at a private school in South Korea, and later at a university in the United Arab Emirates. After returning to Toronto, I taught at a high school for ESOL learners, adapting the Ontario curriculum to fit their needs. I also worked at a private English school, teaching various aspects of English to young adults from all over the world. In my spare time, I freelanced as an editor, working on everything from non-fiction books to doctoral theses. Finally, I have experience as a private tutor for students seeking help with all kinds of subjects; essay help, ESOL assistance, high school courses, and many others. I've worked with students as young as 8 and with those aged 50+, of all ability and skill levels. Working one-on-one is a great opportunity to see students' success, and I take personal pride in seeing all my students succeed. Whether it's passing an eighth-grade English test or achieving an awesome TOEFL score, my tutoring clients' goals are mine as well. I work hard to make every lesson count, in a friendly environment where you can take risks and be proud of your achievements.
